2012-10-30  Supposedly SS + clear gives a deeper looking finish on colors such as black for instance. With metallic colors BC/CC is the only way to go, much easier to spray metallic base than metallic SS.

2011-7-23  TN. Jul 23, 2011. #6. These days with a good paint it boils down to what you are painting, from what I have learned. If you are painting a solid color, the PPG single stage is all you need. The painting process is simpler and the guy selling the paint tells me it will last as good as the basecoat/clearcoat and saves $.

single stage vs. base clear? Hot Rod Forum

2009-1-28  I personally use single stage a lot for solid colors, but prefer basecoat/clear for metallics because it is a lot easier to spray and you don't have to worry about screwing up the metallic when you wet sand and buff. Base/clear definately looks better though, has a deeper look to it cause of the clear. M.

Base Coat/Clear Coat vs Single Stage - Black

2014-11-6  There's nothing wrong with clearing single stage, with metallics you have to anyway. Why do it? Because SS is cheaper and more durable than base and the clear does add more depth. I use base/clearcoat on all my collision repairs but for my own car I used single stage urethane with a clearcoat. Best of both worlds to me.

DIY Pro Tip - Single Stage Paint vs 2-Part Paint

2018-11-18  The base coat is applied after the primer stage, and it has a dull, matte look. It gives uniform color coverage. A separate clear coat is applied at the last step, which gives a translucent layer that can be finished to a higher shine. For starters and DIY’ers, let’s talk about the advantages of single stage paint. The first is the most obvious, and that’s saving a chunk of time for your overall paint job.

2015-7-21  BC/CC is MUCH more forgiving that single stage. I'm with Bob, single stage is fine for a utility trailer or crappy riding lawn mowers and of course if your painting a 1950's or '60 car and want it to look like the original crappy factory paint then single stage is your paint of choice. There are no long term advantages to single stage versus BC/CC.
